Here is our house!
These are pictures that we took on our first visit to the house. We were taking these more for our own reference than to share, so they aren’t the greatest pictures ever, but they give you an idea of what the house looks like.
The house was built in 1904. It is around 1400 square feet, with a detached 400-square-foot cottage. The main thing we fell in love with is the house’s location. It’s really close to Fairhaven, which is a really cute and friendly neighborhood in Bellingham, WA. It’s less than a 10-minute walk to grocery stores, restaurants, and an amazing bookstore. It’s also just a few blocks from the Interurban Trail and the Hundred Acre Wood. It’s in a quiet residential neighborhood with easy access to I-5. But what makes it even better is that it’s a corner lot that sits up off the street a little bit. With that slight elevation and all the shrubbery around the house, it’s incredibly private. You can’t see into any of the windows from the street. From inside the house, all of the big windows provide views of the Chuckanut Mountains. The yard is full of cherry trees, apple trees, rhododendrons, and lots of other nice trees and shrubs.
The house has a ton of potential, but it needs some work. Fortunately, the house is functional, so it’s not like we have to do any major work before moving in, but it does need some aesthetic updates, and down the road we have some big remodels planned. Our first step is just to make some aesthetic changes, like getting rid of the pale pink paint and replacing some carpet. After that, we have lots of projects in mind to make the house beautiful and functional. We’ll document all of those projects here!
